Highlights of the Alberta Budget 2019, part 2


The recently announced Alberta Budget 2019 included the following key priorities:

Getting Albertans back to work: This plan includes supporting investment in Alberta while laying out a strong foundation for sustainable economic growth. The plan includes the following:
   • Eliminated the carbon tax saving the average family around $665 per year
   • Reduce corporate tax rate from 12% to 8% by 2022
   • Implement an enhanced capital cost allowance to support business investment          and job creation
   • Cut red tape from government processes
   • Alberta will move to a new post-secondary sector funding model and lifting the         tuition freeze
   • Remain vigilant and spend only what we can afford

Making life better: This plan will ensure the quality and effectiveness of public services and includes the following efforts:
   • A new Alberta Child and Family Benefit program will replace the current                     programs, providing increased support to low income families
   • Community and Social Services spending will be increased for programs to                  address human trafficking and sexual exploitation
   • Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped, the Alberta Seniors Benefit and         income Support and Special Needs Assistance programs will remain at current           levels

Standing up for Alberta: This plan aims to support a number of actions that will enhance economic growth in Alberta including:
   • Establishment of the Canadian Energy Centre to fight misinformation and                  support leaner and faster regulatory operations.
   • Extension of the Petrochemicals Diversification Program to incent future                      projects. This program provides royalty credits to companies in exchange for              building facilities that turn propane, ethane, methane and feed stocks into                  products.
   • Eliminating crude-by-rail
   • Funds will be used to support climate initiatives, law enforcement, rural crime            reduction and the creation of a Heroes Fund and Veterans Scholarship
